Course Entry/Admission Requirements for MSc in Nursing at Chuka University

  • Bachelor’s degree from a related discipline from institutions recognized by the Senate
  • In addition, BScN degree graduates who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:
    • A holder of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BScN) from CU or an accredited university and recognized by Chuka Univeersity Senate and clinical work experience and preferably currently working (worked) in the relevant specialized area;
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a  programme accredited by a nationally recognized nursing regulatory council. The following must be submitted prior to the admission:
    • Registered nurse licensure in the country in which the candidate will complete practical experience; CUE will appraise the applicant.
  • International applicants will be required to have their certificates verified by the Nursing Council of Kenya;
    • A complete set of officially certified copies of official transcripts, degrees, diplomas and certificate copies from university or college;
    • Supporting recommendations from at least two persons who are well-acquainted with the applicant’s previous academic work and professional experience.
    • Submission of a goal statement (short-term and long-term goals) in becoming an advanced practice nurse. The statement should summarize past education, training and experience as well as interests and future aims.
    • Curriculum vitae.

(b) Applicants must indicate preferred Campus, Mode and Commencement of study to be used if the quorum for the preference does not fill up to recommend alternative offers.
(c) Return forms to P. O. Box 109 – 60400 Chuka. Attention should be: Director, Graduate School for postgraduate programmes, and Registrar (Academic) for Bachelor’s, Diploma and Certificate courses. Certified copies of certificates and original fee payment receipt MUST be attached to the application form and returned latest two weeks prior to the commencement dates given for the programmes.
(d) One Academic Year is equivalent to 2 semesters for full-time or 3 blocks for Holiday-Based mode.
(e) Diploma holders may take a shorter period to complete a Bachelor’s degree after credit transfer.
(f) Preferred Campus should be indicated on the application form.
